"The Old Man's still got it..."

Been keeping myself busy this last month trying to get myself ready for my big upcoming Japan trip in November...
Strangely enough though,... I still feel completely unprepared. I'm FINALLY going to make it to Japan with my Grad School buddy and Kaiju co-conspirator after countless false starts and cancellations on his end. I warned him that this was the last time I would ever offer to show him around and afford him the added benefits that previous trips have afforded me. I think that he could sense how pissed I was at him for his previous last minute bail-outs and realized that if he ever wanted cheap hotel rates and a built-in guide to all the hidden vinyl kaiju treasure troves all over the Land of the Rising Sun, he'd better make good on his old promise and pull his weight this time. It will mark the first time that I've been able to travel to Japan alongside someone with similar interests and an almost identical aesthetic sense. It will nice to be able to go wherever I want whenever I want, without having to worry about whether my traveling companion is having a good time as well!

On a freaky side note-
I've begun to date again locally... I'm simply tired of having my life put on hold by a relationship with a person situated on the other side of the planet. I'm nearly 40 now and I really need to put the rest of my life in perspective if I ever want to raise a family.
I met a gal over the internet recently (yes... I know,... pathetic), and I'm doing my best to take it one day at a time with her.
She is quite a departure from my usual preference, but I've found the contrast is strangely welcoming. Plus, I find that a tremendous pair of legs can obscure a great deal of possible conflict quite nicely!
It isn't always easy... but keeping an open mind helps a lot... as does her quirky sense of humor.
One day at a time, Greg... one day at a time....

Work on the strip had sputtered out a bit because of the recent "distractions", but I've now re-dedicated myself to the story and it seems that the pages are starting to gel again. Here are a few panels from some of the more fully realized sequences since page 26...

Enjoy the madness....

Maaan, half of New York have met people over the net- big deal. There's nothing wrong with it...now stop your self-depricating jibber jabber.

Your stuff looks great- you should come by "Go Figure" when you get a chance. If not, have a great time in Japan.

I'd REALLY love to come, man... you must believe me....
It's just that I have a TON of stuff to get squared away before leaving next week, and it's unlikely that I'll be able to make it before I head out. I'll be flying to Japan on the 1st of next month...

To make matters worse... my roommate is suddenly bailing out on me with NO NOTICE as well... screwing up my finances royally before my trip!
I am absolutely furious... but what can I do?

Know anyone looking for a small private room in the city for cheap rent?

BTW... it's just the fact that I had to resort to an on-line source that is somewhat galling... not the actual process that embarrasses me. My jibber-jabber should be duly noted... and then promptly disregarded.

Good hearing from you, Mr. Sexypants....

Hey, man, I'm envious of you heading to Japan! I'm dying to go back. Last time was in 2000, with my friend Bill...great trip. I'm sure you're gonna have an amazing time.

Pages look terrific - they're getting better and better. - and cool to have the larger scans.

Thanks Justin!

I'll have an extra good time in Japan on your account as well then!
It's about time for you to head back as well, sir... I believe a pilgrimage is in order....

Dude, if you're gonna go again (duh) then maybe a full fledged trip down the line is in order!

Are you back?? How was it?? WHAT DID YOU BUY????!!?? ;)

Good Lord, Justin...

I was SO BAD this trip!
Not in regard to the money I spent (I was very careful and frugal), but in the raw AMOUNT of things I brought back!

I've been back for a couple of weeks now,... trying to get back into the swing of things again. This was my longest trip yet, and I'm finding it a bit difficult to re-establish a healthy sleeping schedule again. I've always been a bit of an insomniac anyway, so this 13 hour jet-lag has hit me pretty hard. I'm adjusted now... but this was the hardest time I've had yet.

I've got a new page coming to post as well... so stay tuned!

Hope you've been well,
GREGGO

Dude, I can only imagine...the last two times that I went was for just one week and it took me almost two weeks to get back to normal..so any longer than that would be brutal.

So, what kinds of stuff did you buy?? Lots of little gashapon? Crazy candies? Cards, strange capsule stuff?

I want pics!!

Looking forward to the next installment.

PS Nancy and I just got back from our own vacation, to the Turks and Caicos islands in the Caribbean..it was nice to get away and the beaches and water are beautiful...but I think we prefer the kind of trips where you can explore another city..and have lots of places to go and things to do (nothing to do other than the beach and snorkleing in T & C)...even though coming back from one of those vacations is exhausting.

Yeah... 3 weeks is tough to get past, jetlag-wise...
I'm on the road to regularity now though...

I brought back a little of everything... manga, gashapon, toys, etc...
I got a TON of vinyl, both current and some amazing "still-in-the-bag" vintage stuff! I even scored a rare variant Bullmark Die-cast Zincron figure... still packed in it's original box. I got so much crap that I had to ship it all back home in a few boxes!

I'm starting to get so good at finding the obscure stuff now... I've already covered my hotel expenses with my last few Ebay auctions! I bring tons of crap back, and auction the stuff I don't want off to the highest bidder...

My next entry will have a new half page illustration in it... I'll take some shots of my more prized acquisitions to be featured in a future post though.

Anyway... I'm glad to hear that you two had a terrific vacation!

More later...

Yup yup...
Got a huge laundry list of stores to re-visit now.
Found a bunch of new little shops in Osaka this time...

Of course, the old stand-by's are still kicking... Forest Gung, Third Uncle, Robot Robot in Nakano, Oyama, Astro Zombies... I can't even name half of the places I went! I just know how to get to them...

Lotsa Henshin Cyborg stuff floating around... must be popular these days, eh?

Yessir... we'd have a ball...

Henshin Cyborg I think has always had it's followers...don't know if it's anymore popular these days than in recent years past...I just know I can't get enuf of the stuff! One day you've gotta make it out to Jersey to check out the collection...hey, I'm off for the X-mas week..maybe we can work something out, if you're up for it.
